Oooooh! The Collage Video Guide is Here!

I love Collage Video! if you have never been on their site you need to check it out. They have TONS of fitness DVDs, and they are all reviewed by Certified Personal Trainers. Even better, they all have clips of a few random segments of the workouts.

The Guide itself is divided up by type: cardio, toning (I hate that word almost as much as I hate the word ‘buns’) or a combination of the two. They also have a section for Special Populations; pregnant women, older exercisers, kids, etc. There are write ups of each video, too, and not the description off the back, but reviews by their team.

When the Guide comes, I am like a kid on Christmas. I get out my sharpie and I circle the ones that sound interesting. Then I go on their website and look at the clips and narrow it down. Right now I am really excited about the Jazzercise Burlesque workout (what can I say? I’ve got Jazzercise on the brain right now) but mostly because it looks a lot like Zumba. Except for the goofy pink outfits. ANYWAY,

Collage also has minute by minute graphs of the workouts so you know exactly what you are getting. And they have competitive prices with Amazon- Both retailers have the Jazzercise Burlesque workout for the same price as of this writing, and both have free shipping with a minimum $25 purchase. All else being equal, I’d much rather support someone like Collage who has gone through all the work and effort to really make themselves experts the was Collage has.

Item of the Week: UA Charged Cotton Capri Pants

Every since Jackie Warner started wearing her “baseball pants” these baggy capris have been popping up at retailers. What’s not to love? The flattering length of capris with the forgiving fit of sweat pants. When I saw these on Under Armour’s website I decided I needed to have them. They have quite a few to choose from, for cold and hot climates, and while the French Terry were tempting, these cotton ones were more form fitting, less schleppy.

Jazzercise vs. Zumba

It is no secret that Jazzercise has an image problem.I mean, it has been around forever. Just the word ‘Jazzercise’ conjures up images of my friend’s mom in sweats and a headband, and perhaps an off-the-shoulder sweatshirt? Terry wrist brands? Yet, it seems to be doing fine. Look at this video- there are plenty of young women in this room! (check out these women shakin’ it.)

But all the current clips of actual classes I can find of it on You Tube are like the above clip- very repetitive, dated choreography and rather unimaginative. And you can’t blame any of that on the individual instructor because it is all canned choreography and music.

What am I missing? Why is this so popular?

I love dancing, so if I am missing something great I want to know!

So I am going to do a scientific analysis of Jazzercise and compare it to other fitness formats and see how it stacks up.

Some criteria we will look at:
Choreography- (hope you like jazz squares…)
Superstars- (I wish I had a video game where fitness superstars faced off against each other)
Branded Clothing- (so glad I don’t have to look at thong leotards for this category)
Music- (the only cardio class I ever walked out of was one that used Hooked on showtunes)
Business Model- (the least important, but instructive as far as the “why” goes.)

Merry… Fitmass?

I have been coveting Turbo Fire since it came out well over a year ago. There were plenty of gift giving holidays since then when I could have asked for it, but I was a deconditioned pregnant lady who wasn’t about to start HiiT training anytime soon.

So how pleased was I when I opened a present from my husband and found… TURBO FIRE! Yay, me!

While I have still been going to Zumba, I haven’t really been pushing myself since the Master Class I took shortly before Thanksgiving. My plan is, instead of following the “Prep” schedule that the set comes with, I’m going to do the Turbo Jam Advanced rotation to get my conditioning to a good starting place.
